HiRISE images for September 15, 2010

The following new captioned and spotlight images taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft are now available:
- Small-Scale Volcanic Activity on Tharsis
This image shows detail of a small volcanic complex in the region of Mars called Tharsis. - Craters on South Polar Layered Deposits
This subimage, about 2.5 kilometers across, shows the south polar layered deposits exposed in a scarp illuminated from the lower right. - Southern Spring (2007)
Southern spring sunshine is causing the seasonal carbon dioxide cap at the south pole to evaporate. - Bright Gully Deposit in Terra Sirenum
This image shows a bright gully deposit and other gullies within a crater wall in Terra Sirenum. - Dark-Toned Ridges in Meridiani
This image is along the rim of an impact crater in Meridiani and shows a lighter-toned base unit with more resistant dark-toned ridges on top. - Dark-Toned Unit Exposed atop Crater Ejecta in Meridiani Planum
This image shows the contact between two geologic units: a cratered plains unit and an etched terrain unit.
