Cassini ISS images - December 29, 2008-January 2, 2009

The following new images taken by the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on the Cassini spacecraft are now available:
  • Helene Attends Dione (Released 29 December 2008)
The small moon Helene leads Dione (not shown) by 60 degrees in the moons' shared orbit.
  • Fingerprints of the Shepherds (Released 30 December 2008)
The F ring and outer edge of the A ring can be seen in this image.
  • Saturn ... Four Years On (Released 30 December 2008)
As Saturn advances in its orbit toward equinox and the sun gradually moves northward on the planet, the motion of Saturn's ring shadows and the changing colors of its atmosphere continue to transform the face of Saturn as seen by Cassini.
  • A Full Sweep of Saturn's Rings (Released 30 December 2008)
Details of Saturn's icy rings are visible in this sweeping view from Cassini of the planet's glorious ring system.
  • Darkness Falls on Rhea (Released 30 December 2008)
The Cassini spacecraft's narrow-angle camera captured Saturn's moon Rhea as it gradually slipped into the planet's shadow -- an event known as "ingress" -- on Aug. 19, 2008.
  • 'Tis the Season for Spokes (Released 30 December 2008)
Dark spokes dance around Saturn's B ring in this series of movies comprised of images taken with Cassini's wide-angle camera.
  • Titan's North Polar Haze (Released 31 December 2008)
Titan's globally distributed detached haze layer and the moon's north polar hood, both notable details of its thick atmosphere, are clearly seen in this image from the Cassini spacecraft.
  • Penelope on Tethys (Released 1 January 2009)
The terminator encroaches upon Penelope, one of the largest craters on Saturn's moon Tethys.
  • Rebel Base in Range (Released 2 January 2009)
Gray Mimas appears to hover above the colorful rings.
