HiRISE images for November 25, 2009

The following new images taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft are now available:
  • Winter View of Dunes
Dunes within a crater on Mars are visible in this HiRISE image. This crater is located in the southern hemisphere where it was winter at the time this image was taken.
  • Martian Dichotomy Boundary
This observation crosses over a part of the hemispheric dichotomy boundary on Mars which separates low-lying northern plains from older southern highlands.
  • Wall Rock and Light-Toned Layering in Candor Chasma
While the canyon walls that define Valles Marineris appear dark and blocky, the interior of the canyons can sometimes be filled with light-toned rocks that appear layered.
  • Valles Marineris Wall Rock
This image captures a small part of the northern wall of Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the solar system.
  • Gullies and Flow Features on Crater Wal
This HiRISE image shows a sample of the variety and complexity of processes that may occur on the walls of Martian craters, well after the impact crater formed.
